How Pick5 Works

The ultimate jam band setlist prediction game — pick songs, earn points, climb the leaderboard.

How to Play

1

Find a Show

Browse upcoming shows for your favorite jam bands. Shows are synced automatically so you always have the latest schedule.

2

Pick 5 Songs

Search the band's catalog and select 5 songs you think will be played. Optionally predict which song will be the opener, closer, or encore.

3

Earn Points

When the show happens, your picks are scored in real-time. Rare songs earn more points, and correct position predictions earn bonus multipliers.

How Scoring Works

Every song in a band's catalog has a point value based on how rarely it's played. The rarer the song, the more points it's worth — from 25 to 300 points.

25 pts300 pts

How Points Are Calculated

Three signals blend together to set every song's point value. The rarer a song is across all three, the more it's worth.

📅
Gap

Shows since the band last played the song. Resets to 0 the show after it appears, then ticks up by 1 each show. A song they just played is worth less; a song dormant for 50+ shows is worth a lot.

🔄
Recent Rotation

How many times the song has appeared in the last 30 shows. Songs in heavy rotation are worth less; songs that have surfaced only once or twice are worth more.

📚
Rank

How often the band has played the song across their entire history. Rank #1 is the most common (lowest points); the highest rank is the rarest (most points).

Position Predictions

When making your picks, you can optionally predict where in the setlist a song will appear. Positions are for the entire show (not per set), and each song can only have one position prediction. Correct predictions multiply your points — wrong predictions have no penalty.

🎬
×2
Opener
Very first song of the entire show
🔥
×2
Closer
Last song before the encore
×1.5
Encore
Any song played in the encore set
🎵
×1
Any
No position prediction — played anywhere

💡 No penalty for wrong guesses! If you predict a song as the opener but it's played mid-set, you still earn the full base points.

Wild Card Wager (Optional)

Before picks lock, you can optionally activate the Wild Card. It's a single yes/no bet on whether the band will play a song we've never seen from them before — a true debut that doesn't exist in our catalog yet.

+80 pts
Brand-new song played
Any debut that wasn't in our catalog counts
⚠️
−50 pts
No new songs played
Applied once the show is finalized

🃏 Your 5 picks still score normally. The Wild Card is a separate, show-wide bet. Leave it off and nothing changes — no bonus, no penalty.

Quick Reference

✅ You Score Points When...

  • A song you picked is played at the show
  • Rarer songs earn more points than common ones
  • A correct position prediction multiplies your points

❌ You Don't Lose Points When...

  • A song you picked isn't played (0 points, no penalty)
  • Your position prediction is wrong (you still get base points)
  • You don't make any position predictions at all

Frequently Asked Questions

Are position multipliers per set or per show?+
Per show. The opener is the very first song of the entire show (not the first song of Set 2, etc.). The closer is the last song before the encore begins. Encore covers any song in the encore set.
Can I assign multiple position predictions to one song?+
No. Each song gets exactly one prediction: Opener, Closer, Encore, or Any. You can only have one Opener pick, one Closer pick, and one Encore pick across your 5 songs.
What happens if I predict Opener but the song is played mid-set?+
You still earn the full base points for that song — there is zero penalty for a wrong position guess. You just don’t get the bonus multiplier.
Do song point values change over time?+
Yes. Each song’s rarity score is recalculated after every finalized show, blending three signals: gap (shows since it was last played), recent rotation (plays in the last 30 shows), and rank (where the song sits in the band’s all-time catalog). See "How Points Are Calculated" above for the full breakdown. A song that just got played drops in value; a song that’s been dormant climbs.
When do point values update?+
Point values are locked for the duration of a live show. Ranks and points only recalculate after a show is finalized, so your score won’t shift mid-show.
What if a song I picked isn’t played at all?+
You get 0 points for that song — but there’s no negative penalty. It simply doesn’t add to your total.
How many songs can I pick?+
Exactly 5 songs per show. You search the band’s catalog and select 5 songs you think will appear in the setlist.
Can I change my picks after submitting?+
You can edit your picks up until the show starts. Once the show goes live, picks are locked.
What is the Wild Card wager?+
The Wild Card is an optional show-wide bet. If you turn it on and the band plays any song we haven’t seen before (a true debut that’s not in our catalog yet), you earn +80 points. If no new song shows up, you lose 50. If you leave it off, there’s no bonus and no penalty.
